Romax Technology is moving to a new purpose built site in Nottingham, creating 100 new jobs over the next three to five years.

The engineering firm’s new premises will be in the city’s University of Nottingham Innovation Park (UNIP) and will mean all Romax functions will be under one roof – including offices, training, R&D and lab facilities.

Currently Romax is spread across multiple sites in Nottingham Science Park, and recent and projected future growth means the company has outgrown these.

At the time of writing, Romax has Nottingham job opportunities in Applications Engineering, Product Management and Sales and Marketing.

Romax specialises in gearbox and driveline engineering with simulation being a growing part of the business. The bigger facilities will mean the company is able to increase the development of its future product line areas, in particular wind energy.

Over the years Romax has built a strong partnership with the University of Nottingham. This has benefits in mutual knowledge transfer, research collaboration and in providing work placement and employment opportunities for university students and graduates.

An example of this collaboration has been the recent decision by Chinese car manufacturer Changan Automobile to choose Nottingham for its new European R&D centre.

There is a jobs and training fair being held in Edmonton, Enfield on Thursday 24th May that is aiming to help unemployed people in the area.

The event is being organised by local MP Andy Love in partnership with Enfield Council’s Jobsnet service, Jobcentre Plus and several local training organisations.

Local employers will be at the event looking to fill job vacancies, and there will also be information on free training courses available plus skills advisors will be on hand to offer help.

Games developer Serious Parody is recruiting for 18 new jobs in its new development studio in Dundee over the next few months.

Serious Parody has made its name in the video games market with its first release, Wrestling Manager, which is available on the Apple iOS platform. The title has received good reviews and Serious Parody is looking to build on this successful start by producing more titles across a range of gaming platforms.

The new development studio in Dundee and associated recruitment drive are a result of Serious Parody securing over £1m of investment. Around a quarter of the cash is coming from a Scottish Enterprise Regional Selective Assistance grant, with the rest being put in by several private investors.

Dundee is a major international games development centre, ranking third out of 50 European developer locations. Augentius Fund Administration is creating a new Operational Centre of Excellence in Belfast which will create over 150 financial sector new jobs over the next two years.

The company already employs 17 staff in Belfast which will increase to 30 by the end of this year. The rest of the new jobs will be recruited by the end of 2014.

Augentius is a London based partnership with international offices including Luxembourg, The Netherlands, New York, Mauritius and Singapore. It provides outsourced fund administration services to private equity clients.

The Augentius investment in Northern Ireland is being supported by Invest NI, with Belfast being chosen for the location of the new centre of excellence ahead of competition from Dublin, India, China and Canada.

Augentius says the decision to set up the new base in Belfast was influenced by the city’s availability of high quality relevant skills and the region’s strong education record, with the firm looking to establish close working links with Queen’s University and the University of Ulster.

One of the founding partners of Augentius, David Bailey says he is very proud of the fact that the firm is expert in developing junior and part qualified accountants by providing training and sector experience resulting in fully qualified accountants running their own clients and teams.

Oil and gas systems and services company Aker Solutions is creating another 500 new jobs in Aberdeen over the next two years.

The company says the 500 new jobs are in addition to the 500 jobs in Aberdeen and London it announced in August last year, and are part of Aker’s plans to grow its business by up to 15% per year from 2011 to 2015.

Aker’s operations in and around Aberdeen include a platform MMO (maintenance, modifications and operations) base and a subsea and drilling technology facility in Dyce. There is also an Aker well intervention services site in Portlethen.

The company already employs over 2,700 people in the Aberdeen area out of a total global workforce of 23,500 across 30 countries.

More new jobs are being created in the North West thanks to the continuing success of the Range Rover Evoque.

The Evoque’s maker, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced that it will place orders worth an additional £1bn with the UK companies that supply components and other services and facilities for the car. This is in addition to the £2bn of contracts already awarded so far, and will secure existing jobs and should create new jobs throughout the supply chain.

New jobs at logistics centre

Meanwhile, JLR has also announced that a new automotive logistics centre will open soon at Ellesmere Port in Cheshire. The new facility will be run by DHL and will create around 300 new jobs.

The Evoque has been a spectacular success since its launch in September 2011. The new model has been particularly popular in overseas markets and in total over 60,000 cars have been sold so far.

The success of the Evoque meant that JLR has already previously announced 1,000 new jobs at its Halewood plant. The plant now operates 24 hours a day and will employ 4,500 people – three times the workforce employed there in 2009.

Garden tools and equipment manufacturer Bosch is recruiting for jobs in its factory at Stowmarket in Suffolk.

Bosch specialises in garden maintenance machinery and is expanding its range of lawnmowers including a soon-to-be-released automatic robotic mower that will cut the grass all by itself.

Bosch believes upcoming developments in cordless and robot technology as hugely exciting for the garden maintenance market. Consequently it is investing in the design and launch of new garden products in these areas.

Technology company Kainos is investing £10m in Northern Ireland, creating over 60 new jobs in Londonderry and Belfast.

Kainos produces specialist software for business customers in three main sectors – public sector, financial services and healthcare. The company’s investment in the Northern Ireland offices includes £2.6m support from Invest NI and will further  develop the Evolve patient medical records system for the healthcare market.

The investment will also be used to strengthen the Kainos Research & Development (R&D) function.

Kainos already employs over 350 people and is looking to double its sales and further develop markets in Europe and the USA over the next few years.

The new jobs with Kainos in Derry include various levels of Software Engineers, Support Engineers, Technical Architects and Client Services roles.

Most of the jobs will be to replace retiring bus drivers over the next three years (image courtesy National Express).

National Express says it will be recruiting for 1,700 jobs in the West Midlands over the next three years.

The national coach and bus operator says that most of the jobs are required to replace bus drivers that will be retiring soon in its bases across Birmingham, Coventry and the Black Country. 125 vacancies will be completely new jobs.

To help with the recruitment drive, the company is partnering with Jobcentre Plus to launch the ‘Routes to Work’ programme which will actively help the unemployed apply for the jobs.

The programme will provide help including pre-interview training, a regional transport work academy and several recruitment roadshows to encourage people to apply.

National Express also says it wants to recruit more women and young people to become their future bus drivers.

You don’t have to be an experienced bus driver to get one of the jobs – anyone with a full car driving licence can apply, as National Express will provide full training. Upon successful completion of training you will be awarded an accredited bus driver’s licence.
